Coal production in the country crosses 1 billion:

  • Coal production in the current financial year has crossed 1 billion (100 crore) tonnes.
  • India, the world’s 5th largest economy, is heavily used as a fuel for power generation and various sectors.
  • Coal is the country’s main source of fuel.
  • About 55 percent of the fuel requirement depends on coal.
  • 74 percent of the electricity in the country is generated by coal-based power plants.

Purple Fest – 2025:

  • A ‘Purple Fest’ has been organized on March 21, 2025 at the Amrit Udyan in the Rashtrapati Bhavan to celebrate the talents, achievements and aspirations of the differently-abled.
  • The ‘Purple Festival’, organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, aims to create awareness about various disabilities and their impact on people’s lives, and to promote understanding, acceptance and inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.

March 22: World Water Day

  • World Water Day is observed annually on March 22 to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater resources and to support sustainable management of freshwater resources.
  • It was recommended to celebrate it at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

March 22: Bihar Diwas

  • Bihar Diwas or Bihar Day is celebrated on March 22 to mark the formation of the state of Bihar.

Important Facts:

  1. It has been decided to name a road in Chennai after Indian cricketer Ashwin.
  2. On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department, the ‘Tamil Nadu Travel Fair’ was launched at the Chennai Trade Centre to attract foreign investments.
  3. Sarra Zaafrani has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Tunisia.
  4. Tunisian President Kais Saied has dismissed Tunisian Prime Minister Kamel Madouri due to the ongoing economic and political crisis in Tunisia.
  5. Rajendra Singh, also known as the “Waterman of India”, won the Magsaysay Award in 2001 and the Stockholm Water Prize in 2015.
  6. He is an Indian water conservationist and environmental activist from Alwar district of Rajasthan, India.
  7. The International Masters League cricket series recently concluded. The India Masters team defeated the West Indies in the final to win the championship.
