UNESCO recognition: 6 Indian historical monuments included in the tentative list
- Six Indian historical monuments, including Ashoka Edicts and Chausath Yogini Temples, have been included in the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition.
- In order to obtain UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition, it is mandatory to include the relevant historical monuments in this tentative list.
- The historical monuments on this list are likely to be recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the future.
- The 6 historical monuments, namely Kanger Valley National Park in Chhattisgarh, the Menhirs at Mudumal Megalithic in Telangana, Ashokan Edicts in various states, Chausath Yogini Temples, Gupta Temples in the northern states, and the Bundelas Forts in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, have been included in the UNESCO Tentative List.
- With this, a total of 62 Indian historical monuments have been included in this proposed list.
- Currently, there are a total of 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India, including 35 in the cultural category, 7 in the natural category and one in both categories.
- The World Heritage Committee meeting was held in India for the first time in 2024.
- At that time, UNESCO recognized the Ahom Dynasty’s burial mound system (Moidams) that ruled Assam.
SCO Defence Ministers’ Conference in China:
- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Conference will be held in China on March 26 and 27.
- China, Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus are 10 countries that are members of the SCO.
- This organization has a regional counter-terrorism structure.
- This year, China is hosting the SCO Summit.
