Barbados’ highest national award for PM Modi:
- In recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s strategic leadership and valuable assistance during the Corona pandemic, he has been honored with Barbados’ highest national award.
- ‘The announcement of the award was made by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during a meeting with Prime Minister Modi during the 2nd India-CARICOM Leaders’ Summit held in George Town, Guyana in November last year.
Ganga Water Treaty: India-Bangladesh
- As the Ganges River Water Treaty is set to be renewed, talks between India and Bangladesh have begun in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.
- According to a statement issued by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, 54 rivers flow in both India and Bangladesh.
- A Joint River Water Commission was set up in 1972 to resolve the issues of sharing the river water flowing between the two countries.
- The Ganges Water Treaty was signed by the then Indian Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 12 December 1996.
- At that time, H.D. Deve Gowda was the Prime Minister of India and Jyoti Basu was the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
- The Ganges River is a river that flows through India and Bangladesh.
- The Ganges is the national river of India.
- The Bhagirathi River, which originates in the Himalayas at Gangotri in the state of Uttarakhand, merges with the Alaknanda River at Devprayag to form the Ganges.
- Then it passes through the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and divides into two rivers, Hooghly and Padma, which pass through West Bengal and Bangladesh respectively, forming a large fertile estuary and merging into the Bay of Bengal.
