Recognition of Pali as a classical Language:

  • Pali language has been accorded classical language status by the central government.
  • Pali is an ancient Central Indo-Aryan language native to the Indian subcontinent.
  • Also known as Pali-Magathi, is a traditional Central Indo-Aryan language of the Indian subcontinent.
  • The Sutta Pitaka contains primarily the Buddha’s teachings and philosophies, directly in the Pali language.

SC upholds validity of section 6A of the Citizenship Act:

  • The Supreme Court has ruled that the Indian citizenship granted to illegal immigrants from Bangladesh will go to Assam.
  • Article 6A was added to the Assam Accord in 1985 to recognize illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to Assam between January 1, 1966 and March 25, 1971.
  • A person’s consent to become a citizen of India is governed by Articles 5 to 11, Part II of the Constitution of India.
  • The Citizenship Act 1955 is a law to grant Indian citizenship to individuals of the nation.
  • The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019.
  • It amended the Citizenship Act, 1955 by providing a fast track to Indian citizenship for persecuted religious minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Rs 209.20 Crore Fund for Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme:

  • The Tamil Nadu government has ordered to allocate Rs 209.20 crore for the Prime Minister’s housing scheme being implemented in rural areas.
  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), a flagship project implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, was launched on 25 June 2015.
  • It means building houses with basic facilities like water, sanitation and electricity for the homeless and those living in houses or damaged houses.

  • Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2024: Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun – “Discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation”.
  • Nobel Prize for Literature 2024: Han Kang – “For his intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and reveals the fragility of human life”
  • Nobel Peace Prize 2024: Nihon Hidankyo – “For its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for proving through witnesses that nuclear weapons should never be used again”
  • Prize for Economic Sciences 2024: Darron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson, and James A. Robinson – “For Studies on How Institutions Form and Affect Prosperity”

  • Valmiki Jayanti, celebrated on October 17, pays homage to Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana.
