160 km Crater at Moon’s South Pole: Pragyan Rover

  • The Chandrayaan-3 satellite that landed on the South Pole of the Moon is making new discoveries.
  • Chandrayaan’s Pragyan rover has discovered a new crater 160 km across on the south pole of the Moon.
  • This crater is believed to predate the formation of the Aitken Basin valley and may be the oldest geological formation on the Moon.
  • The Aitken Basin at the South Pole contains 1400m of rock clefts and hundreds of craters.
  • Chandrayaan-3 satellite successfully launched into precision orbit on July 14, 2023.
  • August 23, the day Chandrayaan 3 landed on the moon, is to be celebrated as National Space Day.
  • The spots on the moon are also known as Shiv Shakti Point (Chandrayaan-3) and Tiranga Point (Chandrayaan-2).

US-Indian Military Semiconductor Manufacturing Plant:

  • A semiconductor manufacturing plant for use by the US Army and Indian Defence Forces will be set up in Kolkata.
