C P Radhakrishnan sworn in as Governor of Maharashtra:

  • Bombay High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath of office to C P Radhakrishnan who left Tamil Nadu as the 21st Governor of Maharashtra.
  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
  • Chief Justice Alok Aradhe administered the oath of office to Jishnu Dev Varma as the new Governor of Telangana.
  • Santosh Kumar Gangwar sworn in as the new Governor of Jharkhand.
  • Gulab Chand Kataria was sworn in as the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the Governor of Punjab.
  • Raman Deka sworn in as the new Governor of Chhattisgarh.
  • Om Prakash Mathur was sworn in as the 16th Governor of Sikkim.
  • Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has also been given the additional charge of Manipur Governor.
  • Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde was also sworn in as the Governor of Rajasthan.
  • Along with them, C H Vijayashankar was appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya and K. Kailashnathan as the Deputy Governor of Puducherry.

Appointment of State Governor:

  • As stated in the Constitution of India, the primary responsibility of the Governor of the State in managing the affairs of the State is to protect, preserve and protect the Constitution and the law.
  • The Governor of a state is appointed by the President of India.
  • The Governor is sworn in by the Chief Justice of the High Court of the State in which he takes office.
  • Under Article 155, the appointment of the Governor is made by the President of India under his seal.
  • He holds office at the pleasure of the President, which means the President can remove the Governor at any time without assigning any reason.
  • The Constitution of India lays down only two qualifications for appointment as Governor of a State.
  • He must be a citizen of India, and
  • He should have completed 35 years.
  • A state governor can resign at any time by sending a letter of resignation to the President of India.

Pradhan Mantri Aadash Gram Yojana Scheme:

  • Pradhan Mantri Adarsh ​​Gram Yojana (PMAGY) is a rural development scheme launched by the Central Government in the financial year 2009-10.
  • It combines for the development of villages with a high proportion (more than 50%) belonging to lower castes.
  • The project is considered ambitious as it aims to bring many development projects to the villages.
  • The scheme was aimed at gaining a greater political role in Scheduled Caste politics.
  • Pradhan Mantri Adarsh ​​Gram Yojana (PMAGY) was formally launched on 23 July 2010 in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan.

 

 

Tamil Puthalvan Scheme: Coimbatore

  • Chief Minister M.K.Stalin announced that the ‘Tamil Puthulvan’ scheme will be launched on August 9 in Coimbatore, which provides Rs.1,000 per month to students who study in government schools and join colleges.
  • 2 lakh 73 thousand students have been benefited under the new girl program which provides Rs.1,000 per month to students studying in government schools and able to attend higher education.

  • Earth Environment Day 2018 is observed on 01 August.

World Breastfeeding Week: 1st to 7th August

  • World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year from 01 August to 07 August to promote the health of babies and encourage breastfeeding.

Important Facts:

  1. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has organized special flight tours to Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Kashmir.
  2. The central government has appointed Preeti Sudan as the Chairperson of the Union Public Service Selection Commission (UPSC).
  3. Minister of Food and Food Supply R. Sakkrapani inaugurated the elevated bridge built at a cost of Rs 8.26 crore across the South Penna river.
  4. World Wide Web Day, National Mountaineering Day and World Lung Cancer Day are observed on August 1.
