New National Education Policy:

India, Russia to boost bilateral trade
- The two countries agreed to increase India-Russia trade to Rs 8.35 lakh crore by 2030 by promoting investments, using their respective country’s rupees for trade, and enhancing cooperation in sectors ranging from energy to agriculture and infrastructure.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Russia, attended the 22nd summit, during which 9 agreements were signed between the two countries.
- It was agreed to pay in Indian rupees for commodities such as crude oil imported from Russia, and similarly for commodities imported from India to be paid in Russian rubles.
Bamboo poles & rims of pots were found in Keeladi excavations:
- Pits for planting bamboo poles and rims of two pots were found in Keeladi excavations near Tiruppuvanam, Sivagangai District.
- This is the biggest excavation in Tamil Nadu.
- More than 40 pits have been excavated here and the ancient remains of Sangam people have been found.
- Carbon dating of charcoal found at the bottom site in February 2017 established that the settlement there dates back to 200 BC.
- Excavations have proved the presence of urban civilization in Tamil Nadu since the Sangam period.
- Artifacts discovered by ASI during the second phase of excavations at the Pallichandai site of Keeladi point to an ancient civilization that flourished on the banks of the Vaigai.
- The state government has expressed interest in setting up a site museum at Keeladi to display the 5,300 artefacts found so far and has offered to allocate 72 cents of land for it.
Discovery of ‘Vattachillukal’ in Cuddalore Excavations:
- Vattachillukal have been found in Marungur excavations in Cuddalore district.
- A copper coin of the Rajarajan period was found last week during excavations at the habitat in Marungur.
- At present, round sherds of various sizes have been found.
- It is certain that the area being excavated is a residential area where people gathered because of the discovery of circular stones.
