- Through the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme, the dream of the homeless is being fulfilled.
- In this project, Rs 3.50 lakh is being provided for the construction of concrete houses with an area of about 360 square feet.
- A target of one lakh houses has been set for the current year.
- The work of constructing permanent houses for slum dwellers was started as a pioneering initiative in Tamil Nadu in 1975.
- Subsequently, in order to achieve the goal of a slum-free Tamil Nadu, the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme’ was started in 2010.
