54.58 Crore Jan Dhan Bank Accounts Opened:
- The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched in 2014 with the aim of providing universal banking services to families without bank accounts.
- Later, the focus shifted to ensuring that every individual without a bank account could access banking services.
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated that 54.58 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts have been opened across the country.
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana:
- The Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) is a life insurance scheme supported by the Government of India.
- It was first announced in February 2015 by the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during the Union Budget speech for the year.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the scheme on May 9 in Kolkata. Individuals aged between 18 and 50 who have a bank account are eligible to enroll.
- The scheme is exempt from GST. It is also linked to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
‘PM-SHRI’ Scheme:
- The ‘PM-SHRI’ (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) scheme aims to upgrade 14,500 schools across the country.
- The central government expects that around 10.8 million students will benefit from this initiative. These schools will serve as model institutions incorporating the principles of the National Education Policy.
- Notably, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, and Delhi are the only states that have not signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education for this scheme.
India to Be Free of Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027:
- The central government is committed to making India free of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), commonly known as elephantiasis, by 2027, as stated by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda.
- Lymphatic Filariasis is caused by microscopic parasitic worms that are transmitted to humans through mosquitoes.
