Bilateral talks between India and Russia:

  • Prime Minister Modi is going to Russia at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the 22nd annual India-Russia Summit.
  • Later, the Prime Minister, who will go to Austria, will hold bilateral talks with the country’s Chancellor, Alexander Van Der Bellen, and Prime Minister Karl Nehammer.
  • So far 21 annual summits have been held between India and Russia.
  • These conferences are held back-to-back in both the countries.
  • India-Russia Summit was held in Delhi on December 6, 2021.

Trust Vote or Floor Test:

  • A trust vote will be held on the government led by Jharkhand Hemant Soren, who recently took office as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
  • A trust vote is an opportunity provided by the Constitution for the Chief Minister or the Prime Minister to move a floor test to continue in power when there is doubt that the ruling government or the newly-incumbent government does not have a majority.
  • Only the President has the power to order a Trust vote in the case of the Central Government.
  • For the state, the governor orders a trust test when there is doubt about the majority in the ruling government.
  • Members of parliament or legislature can move a motion of no confidence in the ruling government either individually or on behalf of a party.
  • But, they can’t bring it arbitrarily.
  • They can only apply to the Speaker of Lok Sabha or Legislative Assembly.
  • The Speaker has the authority to accept or reject it.
  • All elected members of Parliament and Assembly can participate in the vote of confidence.
  • The Supreme Court recently ruled that in states like Puducherry where there are nominated members of the legislature, the nominated members can also participate in the polls.
  • The legislators belonging to the party should vote according to the order of the party whip.
  • Independents can vote for the party of their choice and the Speaker also has the right to vote.
  • A majority of the members present in the House of Parliament or Legislative Assembly during the vote of confidence is declared victorious.

Ayushman Bharat Scheme:

  • The Centre is seriously considering doubling the number of beneficiaries and coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the central government’s free medical insurance scheme.
  • Currently under this scheme the beneficiaries are given medical insurance up to Rs.5 lakh per annum.
  • The central government is considering increasing this to Rs 10 lakh and doubling the number of beneficiaries.
  • Accordingly, it is planned to improve so that everyone above 70 years of age can benefit.
  • Earlier, the central government had increased the allocation for this insurance scheme in the 2024 Interim Budget.
  • With this, the allocation increased from Rs.646 crore to Rs.7,200 crore.
  • Ayushman Bharat Yojana is also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY).
  • It is a scheme aimed at helping the economically weaker sections of the society in need of healthcare facilities.
  • It was launched by the Prime Minister on September 23, 2018.
  • This health insurance scheme covers about fifty crore citizens in India.
  • The central government has provided this medical insurance to a total of 12 crore families.
  • Considered one of the largest health programs in the world, Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to extend coverage to more than 50 crore Indian citizens, especially the economically disadvantaged.
  • It provides cashless hospitalization services through Ayushman Health Card.
  • It can be used in any empanelled hospital across the country.
  • Beneficiaries can approach the hospital for necessary treatment by submitting their PMJAY e-card.

Dengue fever: Karnataka

  • As of July 6, 7,000 people have been diagnosed with the virus in Karnataka.
  • Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease caused by the dengue virus.
  • It is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions.
  • It usually starts 3 to 14 days after infection when symptoms appear.
  • These include high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains and a characteristic skin rash and rash.
  • Also known as dengue haemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome.
  • Bleeding develops with low platelets, leakage of blood plasma, and dangerously low blood pressure.

First week of July: Van Mohotsava

  • Van Mahotsava is a week-long tree-planting festival celebrated annually in the first week of July in India.
