- Kumbakkonam Betel Leaf and Thovalai Manikka Malai, which are among the proud agricultural products of Tamil Nadu, have been granted Geographical Indication.
- This Geographical Indication is being granted by the Central Government to highlight special and unique products grown in a particular area or produced with a particular uniqueness.
- This recognition is being given to prevent anyone else from using this name for commercial gain or forgery in any way.
- For the first time, an agricultural product, Kumbakkonam Betel Leaf, has been granted Geographical Indication.
- Already, geographical indications have been obtained for products including Dindigul Lock, Salem Sungudi Saree, Kanchipuram Pattu Saree, Madurai Malligai, Thanjavur Kalai Thattu, Srivilliputhur Palgova, Kovilpatti Kadalaimittai, Palani Panchamirtham, Kodaikanal Malaipoondu in Tamil Nadu.
