IRCTC gets ‘Navratna’ status:

  • The central government has approved the ‘Navratna’ status for Indian Railways’ public sector undertakings Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IFRC).
  • With this, IRCTC has become the 25th and IFRC the 26th company to be conferred with the Navratna status.
  • With the conferment of Navratna status on IRCTC and IFRC, all 7 PSUs out of the total 12 PSUs operating under Indian Railways have been granted the Navratna status, the Railway Ministry said.
  • Navratna status is conferred on Central Public Sector Undertakings that perform well in the financial and commercial markets.
  • The value of the companies that receive this status increases and they are allowed to expand their financial results.
