Act for Regular Sessions in Local Bodies:

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has emphasized that the states should enact legislation to hold regular sessions in local bodies (municipalities and panchayats) like the Parliament.
  • The introduction of the 73rd and 74th Amendments to the Constitution of India was a milestone in establishing decentralized democratic governance through local bodies.
  • Bringing governance to people’s homes to establish economic and social justice.
  • The system of holding elections to local bodies is constitutionally mandated.
  • As per the newly created Panchayats Act, 1994 Panchayats are divided into three different levels.
  • That is, district panchayats at the district level, panchayat unions at the regional level and village panchayats at the grassroots level have been formed.
  • Urban local bodies are divided into three categories namely Nagar Panchayat, Municipal Council & Municipal Corporations
  • Chennai became the first city in India.
  • Local councils are formed with members elected by the people.
  • The development plans of those towns are implemented according to the resolutions passed in these forums.

 

 

 

Jaishankar meets Foreign Ministries of G4 countries:

  • As part of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in the United States, a meeting was held with the foreign ministries of the G4 member countries.
  • There are 4 countries: Brazil, Germany, India and Japan.
  • The primary objective of the G4 is permanent membership seats in the Security Council.
  • Each of these four countries have been elected non-permanent members of the UN since its inception, and their economic, political and military influence has grown significantly over the past decades.

Credit Guarantee Fund Trust Scheme for Small and Micro Enterprises:

  • The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) launched the CGTMSE scheme.
  • The Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises launched a loan guarantee scheme to strengthen the credit delivery system and ease the flow of credit to the MSE sector.
  • CGTMSE Scheme or Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises is implemented by SIDBI and Government of India.

September 25: Antyodaya Diwas

  • Antyodaya Diwas is observed on 25th September every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

  1. For the first time in India, Delhi Airport plans to introduce an air train service connecting all its terminals.

  4. Playback singer P Susheela and poet Mu Metha have been selected for Tamil Nadu govt’s Kalaignar Memorial Kalaithurai Vithagar Virudhu awards for the year 2023.
  5. The Cipaca Miss Nightingale Award 2024, which honors nurses, was presented to Esther Manova Jennifer.
  6. Social activist Harini Amarasuriya has taken over as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. New President Anura Kumara Dissanayake administered the oath of office to her.
