‘Quad Foreign Ministries’ Meeting: Japan
- Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, who participated in the ASEAN and East Asia Conference held in Laos, has gone to Japan to participate in the two-day Conference for Foreign Ministries of the ‘Quad’ Federation.
- Jaishankar inaugurated the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Freedom Plaza in Edogawa, Tokyo, capital of Japan.
- India has emerged as the 5th largest economy globally and the G7 has also expanded into the G20.
- In response to China’s dominance in the Indo-Pacific region, 4 countries namely India, USA, Japan and Australia formed the ‘Quad’ organization.
Backlash in physical education globally: UN report
- According to the UN, most of the school students in the world are not taught even the minimum physical education. According to the International Report on Quality Physical Education published for the first time.
- The report titled ‘The State of Sport Globally’ was published by the Education Division of UNESCO.
- Physical education is compulsory for girls in only 58 percent of countries globally.
Coordinated action needed to address hepatitis epidemic: World Health Organization
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on South Asian countries to work together to prevent and treat hepatitis B and C by vaccinating them.
- Despite preventable and treatable methods, many people die from liver cancer, liver failure and liver cirrhosis, according to a report published by the World Health Organization.
- Hepatitis B and C viruses are responsible for 75 percent of liver cirrhosis.
Paris Olympics: India’s first medal
- Haryana’s Manu Pak came third in the 10m air pistol event with 221.7 points.
- South Korea’s Oh Ye-Jin win gold with a Games record 243.2 points.
- South Korea’s Kim Yeji claimed the silver medal with 241.3 points.
- India’s Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal in shooting.
- With this, she became the first athlete to win a medal for India in Olympic shooting.
- India has won a medal in Olympic shooting after 12 years.
World Hepatitis Day: July 28
- World Hepatitis Day is observed on 28th July every year.
- The current year is being observed with the theme ‘It’s Time for Action’.
International Tiger Day: July 29
- International Tiger Day is observed every year on July 29 to spread awareness about the need for tiger conservation and to promote conservation of tigers’ natural habitat.
- It aims to create awareness about the conservation of tigers and the urgent threats they face such as habitat loss, poaching and human-wildlife conflicts.
